Chronic Fatigue and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis

Max Secchi is also a trained and registered Perrin Technique practitioner.  The Perrin Technique has been shown to be helpful to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) sufferers. Max Secchi uses the Perrin Technique researched by Dr Raymond Perrin who has shown that chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) can be caused by poor circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid and lymphatics resulting in a toxic build up. The Perrin Technique involves osteopathic techniques to stimulate the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid and lymphatic drainage, restoration of upper back function and to facilitate detoxification by the liver. More information about the Perrin Technique can be found by visiting The Perrin Clinic website or to talk to a Perrin Technique practitioner please call 01364 652016.

Sleep Therapy

Insomnia and sleeplessness in a serious problem for many people resulting in poor health, anxiety, relationship problems and depression.  Max Secchi uses a combination of techniques including cognitive behavioural methods, nutrition, cranial osteopathy and keeping sleep diaries. The sessions seek to understand why the patient is having poor sleep and will identify any bad sleep habits or behaviours. Over the course of six sessions in the sleep clinic the patient will gain insight into their insomnia or sleeplessness and how they can help themselves by altering sleep patterns, keeping a sleep diary and looking at cognitive behavioural techniques to improve the sleep they are getting. The techniques have a wonderful success rate and most people report improved sleep within two to three sessions. Max Secchi may also occasionally use some osteopathy to speed up the process.

Stress Management

Max Secchi uses a mixture of cognitive behavioural techniques, meditation and relaxation methods, and nutrition and exercise which is individually tailored to the patient's needs. Overall we will create a useful, effective, easy to follow stress management plan which will offer help in the short and long term coping mechanisms of the patient.

Max Secchi B.Sc.(Hons) Ost

Max Secchi is registered osteopath and co founder of Desk Therapy.  Max Secchi qualified from the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) in 1996 with first class honours winning the prizes for Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Neurology. After graduating he went into private practice in Notting Hill and Harley Street, London and soon started working part time at the BSO as a Clinical Tutor. He escaped the "rat race" of London in 2003 when he moved to Devon to raise his two daughters. Presently Max Secchi works in private practice in the South Dartmoor Clinic, Ashburton and in Plympton in south west Devon, and teaches Anatomy part time in Devon. He has delivered lectures and tutorials at Peninsula Medical School, the British School of Osteopathy, the London Stock Exchange, the Home Office and the University of Westminster.   He has also worked "in house" offering treatment and ergonomic advice to large corporations like Harvey Nichols and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Max Secchi has special clinical interest in ME / CFS, rehabilitation exercises, stress reduction and sleep disorders and spends his spare time playing tennis, rock climbing, playing the piano and doing yoga.

Max Secchi is registered with most insurance companies including BUPA, PPP, Norwich Union, etc.

Kate Fry B.Sc.(Hons) Ost

Kate Fry is a UK based osteopath and co-founder of Desk Therapy. She gained her degree at the British School of Osteopathy in 1998. She worked as an osteopath in South London and Notting Hill for five years before returning to her roots in Devon where she now works part time and raises her two daughters. She is a keen walker, enjoys gardening and yoga.

Over the years Kate has found that whilst hands on work is an effective way of restoring function to the body often problems recur unless the underlying predisposing and maintaining factors are addressed. She believes that a structured, individually tailored exercise regime is vital for many patients especially those with sedentary occupations or hobbies.
